Thomas W. Wayne
Tom Wayne is President and Interim Chief Financial Officer at Bank of Oak Ridge. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Bank and its parent company, Oak Ridge Financial Services, Inc. Bank of Oak Ridge is headquartered in Oak Ridge, NC with locations in Oak Ridge, Summerfield and Greensboro, NC.
As a member of the Bank of Oak Ridge team since its founding in 2000, Mr. Wayne directs financial and managerial accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting, asset liability management, information technology, retail banking and deposit and online banking. Also, he leads strategic planning and manages the bank’s balance sheet and investment portfolio to minimize changes in net interest income due to changing interest rates.
Since 2008, under Mr. Wayne’s leadership, Bank of Oak Ridge’s tax-equivalent investment portfolio total return has consistently ranked up above the 90th percentile among its national FDIC peer group.
Prior to joining Bank of Oak Ridge, Mr. Wayne worked for KPMG for five years in their financial services division with community banking clients. He also held the positions of Commercial Credit Review Manager and Chief Financial Officer at two other community banks.
Mr. Wayne received bachelor degrees in Finance and Accounting from Appalachian State University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and received his M.B.A. from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He is a North Carolina Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
From 2003, as his time has permitted, Mr. Wayne has served as an adjunct lecturer for University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Bryan School of Business and Economics in both M.B.A. and undergraduate classes, ranging from financial and managerial accounting to personal finance. He also currently serves on the faculty of the North Carolina School of Banking, and the North Carolina Bankers Association education program.
In 2011, Mr. Wayne was honored as one of four finalists in the Triad Business Journal’s CFO of the Year competition in the small business category, and was once again selected as one of the Financial Executives of the Year, presented by the Triad Business Journal in 2015. In addition, he has been selected to participate in the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) inaugural Emerging Leaders Program, he serves on the Board of the Greensboro Currency Project and is a member of the North Carolina School of Banking Board of Trustees. Further, he has served as a panelist for the Fuqua Investment Club and Duke Corporate Education, most recently participating in a custom course designed for Google.
Mr. Wayne is a member of the AICPA, North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA), and the Financial Managers Society (FMS).
In his spare time, Mr. Wayne enjoys spending time with his family and dogs, technology, gadgets and walking. Also, he is an electric bike enthusiast. For many years, he served as a girls’ recreational soccer coach. He resides in Greensboro with his wife and three daughters.
